Measurement of Stretched Penile Length in Term Neonates at a Single Tertiary Care Centre of South India

Evidence from several studies has shown that the penile length varies among different populations of racial/ethnic groups. Size abnormalities newborn external genitalia may be a pointer to some endocrine and genetic disorders. In this study we have prospectively measured stretched all newborns at our hospital in an attempt define normative data for full term neonates region. All live male born were enrolled into study. Stretched was pubic ramus tip glans penis using digital Vernier Calliper. The measurements taken within 48 hours birth. Two consecutive average recorded as final measurement. mean 2.63±0.35 mm diameter 1.04±0.09 respectively. significantly varied with (height) neonate expressed cms. taller neonate, longer penis. Similarly, (p<0.05) gestational age. correlates age neonate.
